seasonal cycle

Our inner world and homeostasis moves with the rhythm of natures flow, not a romantic ideal, but an observable truth. If one looks close enough the perceived separateness of us and nature may begin to blur.

Winter

Trees pull their energy into their trunk as it’s branches become barren - our bodies redirect our blood flow to our major organs causing our fingers and toes to get cold.

The sun rises earlier and sets later, calling us into bed sooner and causing us to pull the covers up and snooze the alarm when it goes off in the morning.

Animals hibernate and enter their caves or burrow and we may stay home, leaning towards solitude, rest and reflection.

Spring

As sunshine increases and the snow melts, so does our inner world. Warmth starts to naturally shift Kapha congestion as we feel called to move more in the pleasant weather, our lymphatic system pumps in a natural detoxification.

The world starts to bloom in blossoms and baby animals - we too may emerge into the world ready to start creating, resetting or cleaning our spaces.

Summer

The sun is early to rise and late to set - we may find ourselves showing up to many social activities with earlier wake ups and later bedtimes in balmy evening weather.

Earth heats up and water evaporates - our body can become dehydrated and our electrolytes imbalanced as we sweat more and our body cools itself down.

Full sun can scorch some plants and cause animals to seek shade - we too may feel burnt, dry, fatigued, hot tempered or frustrated if we find ourselves in too much heat and sun during the day.

Autumn

Dry air arises, leaves crisp up and fall - our skin, joints and digestion may also become drier and rougher

Wind blows and swirls fallen leaves and dust from harvested crops, we may feel erratic and sneezy.

Changing in the seasons from summer to winter may bring about seasonal illness.

Balance comes from riding the wave of life and its flowing momentum, rather than fighting the current.
